Top Richest Churches in Kenya 2026 and How Much They Earn in Tithes

Kenya is home to thousands of churches, with more than 4,000 officially registered across the country. These churches represent a variety of denominations, including Roman Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal congregations, and some individuals also own their churches with massive followers, i.e self Proclaimed Prophet Owuor and Paster Ezekiel.

In recent years, the government has tightened oversight on religious institutions, requiring them to submit audited financial statements each year. Churches are now expected to disclose their annual income, expenditures, assets, liabilities, and bank statements.

Some of Kenya’s largest and wealthiest churches have revealed their annual income from tithes, offerings, and other sources. Based on the latest updates for 2026, here is a look at the top earners:

1. Christ Is the Answer Ministries (CITAM)

CITAM Church

CITAM reported an income of Sh2.48 billion in 2026. Revenue from its business units, including schools, universities, and real estate, rose to Sh922 million.

CITAM owns at least ten primary schools in areas such as Athi River, Thika Road, Kisumu, Nakuru, Ngong’, Kiserian, and Woodley, as well as Pan Africa Christian (PAC) University. Rental income from church properties reached Sh6.4 million in 2026.

The church also operates CITAM Kadolta Resort in Kitengela, which offers accommodation, conference facilities, a restaurant, a swimming pool, camping, and team-building services. Through Hope Media, it runs Hope FM and Hope TV. CITAM has 33 branches nationwide.

2. Nairobi Chapel

Nairobi Chapel, with 33 branches across Kenya, earned Sh771 million in 2026. This total includes tithes, offerings, gifts, partnerships, interest, and donations in kind.

Its expenditures totaled Sh664.5 million, leaving a surplus of around Sh106.5 million.

3. Mavuno Church

Mavuno Church reported Sh298.4 million in 2026, up from previous years. The increase reflects steady growth in tithes and offerings from its congregation.

4. Karura Community Chapel

Karura Community Chapel earned Sh229 million in 2026. The church has seen consistent growth due to active participation from its members and community programs.

5. All Saints Cathedral

All Saints Cathedral, the largest Anglican church in Kenya, recorded Sh202 million in income from tithes and offerings in 2026. This reflects continued support from parishioners to fund church and charitable activities.

Kenya’s richest churches have diversified into education, real estate, hospitality, and media, making them not only spiritual centers but also major economic players in the country.
