A clinical officer at Chemaner Health Center in Bomet County has been taken into custody after allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman during a routine maternity check-up.
Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander, Michael Singa, revealed that the suspect, identified as Eric Langat, also known as Kirinyet, allegedly committed the crime while attending to the patient in one of the examination rooms.
The incident reportedly came to light when the victim screamed for help, drawing attention from other patients and staff. Onlookers found the clinical officer in a compromising situation, prompting him to flee the scene.
Following a report at Chemaner Police Station, authorities launched a manhunt and later apprehended Langat at a hideout.
The victim received immediate medical attention and counselling at Longisa County Referral Hospital, with police and healthcare workers assisting throughout the process.
According to sources, the suspect may have been involved in two prior assault cases, which were reportedly never reported, allegedly due to his connections with senior medical officials.
Commander Singa stated that the suspect will face court proceedings once the investigation concludes.
