Makueni Woman Surrenders After Allegedly Killing 11-Year-Old Son in Lodging

A woman has surrendered to police after she allegedly killed her 11-year-old son in a lodging in Mumbuni, Makueni County.

According to police, the incident happened on Sunday, March 22, just a day after the woman checked into the lodging with her three children.

Reports indicate that the woman left the room briefly, saying she was going to buy toothpaste. When she delayed returning, the lodge manager became concerned and went to check on the children.

Inside the room, two children aged six and three were found safe. However, their older brother was found lying unconscious on the bed.

Authorities later confirmed that the boy, a Grade 4 pupil at Miau Primary School, had died. He had injuries on his neck, which police believe were caused by strangulation.

The child’s body was moved to a mortuary as police wait for a postmortem to confirm the exact cause of death.

The suspect later went to Machakos Police Station and surrendered herself. She is currently being held as police prepare to transfer her back to Makueni for further investigations and possible court charges.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and the motive behind the incident is still unknown.

Authorities have also stated that the woman will undergo a psychiatric evaluation as part of the investigation.
