Germany Opens Fully Funded DAAD Scholarship Applications for Kenyans and Other African Students

The government of Germany has officially opened applications for the 2026 DAAD fully funded scholarship programme for students from Sub-Saharan Africa, including Kenya.

The scholarship is being offered through the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Programme, which supports students who want to pursue further studies in selected universities across Africa.

According to the official announcement, the deadline for applications is April 29, 2026.

Who Can Apply?

The scholarship is open to graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan African countries who want to continue their education.

For Master’s degree applicants, one must have a first university degree, preferably with at least a Second Class Upper Division or equivalent.

Applicants must also show:

  • Strong academic performance
  • High motivation to continue studies
  • Good language skills for the selected course
  • A degree obtained within the last six years

Women, refugees with recognized status, and candidates from disadvantaged backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply.

Courses and Universities Available

The DAAD programme is currently offering scholarships in selected universities within Africa.

Some of the available courses include:

  • Master of Philosophy in Urban Studies at the University of Cape Town, South Africa
  • Master of Science in Mathematics at the University of Pretoria, South Africa
  • Master of Science in Physics at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Nigeria

More courses may be added through the official DAAD portal.

Scholarship Benefits

Successful applicants will receive full financial support throughout the study period.

The benefits include:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Monthly stipend of up to 500 Euros
  • Study and research allowance
  • Thesis printing allowance
  • Travel allowance for regional students
  • Health insurance support

At the current exchange rate, the monthly stipend is approximately KSh 75,000, which helps cover accommodation and daily living expenses.

Duration of the Scholarship

The scholarship covers the full duration of the selected programme, with Master’s courses funded for up to 24 months.

Funding continues based on academic progress after the first year.

Interested applicants are required to submit their applications through the official DAAD online portal.

  • Updated CV
  • Academic certificates
  • Transcripts
  • Recommendation letter
  • Motivation letter
  • National ID or passport copy

Applications must be submitted before April 29, 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Additional Opportunity

The programme also offers selected scholars a chance to attend short-term research stays in Germany, lasting between three and six months.

This allows students to gain international academic exposure and research experience.
