KMTC Students Can Now Apply for HELB Loans After Ruto Allocates KSh56.7 Billion

Students at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) can now officially apply for funding from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) after President William Ruto allocated KSh56.7 billion to the institution in the 2026/27 budget.

The allocation was announced after the signing of the Finance Bill 2026, giving KMTC students access to government financial support for their studies.

Under the new arrangement, eligible KMTC students can apply for loans through the Higher Education Fund (HEF) portal.

The government has also provided a special KMTC Students’ Finance Scheme, which is managed by HELB and attracts a low interest rate of four percent.

Students have been advised to submit their applications early because the process is usually handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Continuing students can also access HELB services through the *642# USSD code or by using the official HELB mobile application.

The move is expected to ease the financial burden on thousands of KMTC students across the country and help more learners continue with their studies without interruption.
