Nairobi and Several Counties to Experience Cold Weather and Rain in Five Days

Residents in Nairobi and several parts of Kenya should prepare for cool weather and occasional rainfall over the next five days, according to the latest forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Service.

The forecast covers Sunday, August 23 to Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Nairobi and Central Kenya

Nairobi is expected to have cloudy mornings followed by sunny periods during the afternoons. There is also a possibility of light rain on Sunday night.

Temperatures in Nairobi are expected to range between 13°C and 24°C during the period.

Residents of Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga and Nyeri should also expect cool conditions and occasional light rain.

Kiambu is likely to receive light rain and afternoon showers, while Murang’a could also experience showers during the five days.

Nyandarua is expected to record some of the lowest temperatures in the Central region, with night temperatures falling to around 6°C. Daytime temperatures will remain around 22°C to 23°C.

Weather in Mombasa

Mombasa residents can expect a warmer week, with periods of sunshine interrupted by light showers.

Daytime temperatures are forecast to remain between 28°C and 30°C, while nighttime temperatures could range from 21°C to 23°C.

Other parts of Kenya

Embu could receive light rain on Sunday and Monday mornings, while Kitui may experience light showers on Thursday.

Machakos and Makueni are expected to have sunny intervals, although temperatures will remain relatively cool.

Some areas in the Rift Valley, including Nandi and Laikipia, could receive light showers on Sunday and Monday.

In Western Kenya, Kakamega is expected to experience light showers on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Northern Kenya will remain much hotter. Turkana could record temperatures as high as 36°C, while Mandera may reach 36°C on Wednesday and Thursday. Garissa could record highs of about 34°C.

More rain possible in the coming season

The latest forecast comes as weather experts continue to monitor climate conditions that could affect Kenya’s upcoming rainy season.

Weather expert Maithya wa Vilivū said conditions in the Pacific and Indian Ocean could influence rainfall patterns in the Greater Horn of Africa.

According to the expert, the combination of a strengthening El Niño and a possible positive Indian Ocean Dipole could result in above-normal rainfall in parts of the region during the coming rainy season.
