Truck Driver Dies as Multiple Vehicles Collide Near Simba Cement

A serious road accident involving several vehicles was reported on Saturday afternoon near Simba Cement along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

Several vehicles were damaged in the crash, including a long-distance truck. Police officers, ambulances and other emergency teams arrived at the scene as rescue operations got underway.

A witness said the truck driver had died in the accident, while the turnboy survived. However, authorities had not yet confirmed the total number of people killed or injured by the time of publication.

The accident also caused a major traffic jam along the busy highway. Local youth were reportedly blocking part of the road, further affecting traffic movement.

The Local Drivers and Conductors Association (LODDCA) urged motorists approaching the Simba Cement area to slow down and exercise caution as emergency teams continued working at the scene.

Salgaa is known as one of the major accident black spots along the Nakuru-Eldoret road and has witnessed several deadly crashes over the years.

The area was the scene of a major tragedy in 2009 when an overturned fuel tanker caught fire after members of the public gathered to collect spilled fuel. The incident claimed about 140 lives, with most of the victims dying at the scene and others later succumbing to their injuries.

Motorists using the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway are advised to approach the Simba Cement area carefully as traffic remains affected by the crash.
