New survey results suggest that Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and businesswoman Agnes Kagure are currently leading the race for Nairobi governor if elections were held today.
According to the latest poll by Mizani Africa, Babu Owino tops the list with 24.3% support, closely followed by Agnes Kagure at 21.5%. Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s ally, James Gakuya, comes in third, while the current governor, Johnson Sakaja, is in fourth place.
Mizani Africa noted that the Nairobi gubernatorial race is highly competitive with no clear favorite. “Babu Owino is slightly ahead at 24.3%, followed by Agnes Kagure at 21.5% and James Gakuya at 18.1%. Governor Sakaja trails at 16.6%, with 7.9% of voters still undecided,” the survey report stated.
The poll also reflected Nairobi’s dissatisfaction with Governor Sakaja’s performance. His approval rating stands at 38.4%, showing moderate satisfaction but not enough to secure a strong lead in the elections.
Looking at party preferences, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) remains the most popular party in Nairobi, with 24.7% support. President William Ruto’s UDA party follows at 17.7%, while 33.7% of voters are not attached to any party, highlighting a flexible and persuasive voter base ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The survey indicates that Nairobi’s political scene is fluid, and the upcoming elections could see intense competition as candidates work to win over undecided voters.
