Government Gives Fresh Update on NYOTA Project Applications

The government has released a fresh update for all applicants of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, advising them to be cautious and rely only on official communication channels.

In a statement issued on Monday, August 4, 2025, the NYOTA project management warned of an increase in fake online platforms impersonating the programme to scam unsuspecting youth.

Officials clarified that authentic updates on Business Support, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), and the ongoing On‑the‑Job Experience programme will only be posted on the official NYOTA website and verified social media pages. Applicants will also receive updates directly via the phone numbers they used during registration.

“All services under the NYOTA Project are completely free of charge. We urge all youth to remain vigilant, report fraudulent pages, and avoid sharing personal information with them,” the statement read in part.

Where to Get Verified NYOTA Information

To avoid falling victim to fraud, applicants are encouraged to:

  • Visit the official NYOTA Project office.
  • Consult the nearest sub‑county youth office.
  • Call the toll‑free number 0800 222 221.
  • Follow only the project’s verified social media pages.

About the NYOTA Project

The NYOTA Project is a joint initiative between the Kenyan Government and the World Bank targeting more than 820,000 vulnerable and unemployed youth, including persons with disabilities.

It focuses on:

  • Paid On‑the‑Job Training – offering practical work experience.
  • Entrepreneurship Support – to help young people start businesses.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – certifying skills gained outside formal education.

The On‑the‑Job Experience component will benefit 90,000 youth, each receiving a KSh 6,000 monthly stipend through Haba Haba savings accounts. Successful applicants will be placed with various employers for three to six months.

Applications opened on July 11 and will close on August 15, 2025.
