Millie Grace Akoth Odhiambo Mabona, also known as ”Bad Girl Millie,” for being an unshakable tough lady. She is known for her courageous, vocal presence in parliament and for her activism on human rights and social justice. She is a defender of children’s and women’s rights. Since being elected Member of Parliament for Suba North Constituency, Millie Odhiambo has consistently worked to transform the Kenyan political landscape for the betterment of the country.

Millie Odhiambo was born on the 1st of November 1996, in Mbita, Homa Bay County. She grew up in a humble family. She went through some difficult parts of life after her father, Harrison Odhiambo, died in the 1970s. Mr. Harrison was a civil servant, and she passed when Millie was still a young girl, at the age of seven.

There were eight children in the family, and she was the fourth. Their mother, Damaris Auma Odhiambo, had to work hard to care for the whole family after the loss of her husband.

The struggle at an early age taught her the need to be strong, to study hard at school, and to be disciplined.

Millie Odhiambo’s academic journey is full of success and she had impressive performance throughout, she started her lower education in Homabay, and after finishing she joined St. Francis Girls High School in Mbita, she passed well in her KCSE exams in the 1980s and received a calling letter to join the giant Nairobi University which has been known to produce National leaders for years, she pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in 1990,

One year later, in 1991, after completing her degree studies and graduating, she remained eager to pursue further studies and joined the Kenya School of Law, where she qualified to be an advocate of the High Court.

She went to New York University (NYU) in 2000, where she earned a Master of Laws (LLM). After accomplishing all that, she now had a strong foundation and a better understanding as a human rights advocate.

Before joining politics, Millie worked as a human rights lawyer; she was also an activist and founded the Cradle Children Foundation in 2001. She advocated for child abuse and is known to fight for human rights, which made her serve as a member of international organizations, including the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Millie Odhiambo, after serving for a long time in human rights organizations, opted to join national politics by contesting for the Mbita Constituency parliamentary seat in 2007, and she won. She is in her second term after being re-elected by her people for the developments she has made for them.

Millie Odhiambo is known for airing her views in parliament on matters concerning gender equality, anti-gender-based violence laws and rights, children’s rights, and women’s health, and for actively participating in the constitutional change process.

This is evident even in the recent June 2025 protests in Nairobi CBD after the killing of blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang’, where police shot a young man on the streets and injured him.

Millie, fighting against police brutality, said,” Police restrain yourself from killing and injuring innocent citizens who are fighting for their constitutional rights during peaceful demonstrations. She remarked angrily.

Millie is married to a Zimbabwean national, Mr. Mabona. Despite being criticized for marrying a person of a different nationality, she defends her choice by warning society to obey values. They both have a girl, called Lebo, who lives in Botswana. Millie is a stepmother to Lebo. Millie opened up about being unable to bear children and inspired other women who have been facing such challenges, describing herself as childless biologically but a mother to many, as she even has a children’s home for orphans.

Millie Odhiambo, like other politicians, has millions of dollars. She has been a lawyer and has invested in real estate in Homabay and Nairobi city. As a member of parliament, she receives over Ksh 500,000 per month, a house allowance of Ksh 250,000, and a sitting allowance of Ksh 15,000 as of 2025. Her net worth is approximately KSh 560 million.
