19-Year-Old Man in Kericho Hacks Three Relatives to Death

Grief and shock have gripped Samutet village in Kericho County after a 19-year-old man went on a violent rampage, leaving three of his close relatives dead.

According to Kericho County Police Commander James Ng’etich, the suspect, identified as Evans Kiprop, attacked his 70-year-old aunt with a panga inside her house as she carried out her daily chores. The assault drew the attention of his 28-year-old sister-in-law, who rushed from her nearby home to check on the commotion. Unfortunately, she too became a victim when the suspect chased her down and hacked her to death near the family’s cow shed.

The violence did not spare the youngest member of the family. The suspect allegedly turned on his three-year-old niece, who was at the scene during the horrific attack. The child sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said Kiprop, who had a history of criminal behavior and had previously been sent to an approved school, was lynched by irate members of the public shortly after the killings.

“The motive behind the incident remains unclear, but investigations are ongoing,” Commander Ng’etich told reporters.

The bodies of the victims were moved to the Kericho County Referral Hospital mortuary, while the community remains in deep shock as authorities piece together the circumstances leading to the triple tragedy.
