A Bribe of KSh 25 Million Led to Deadly South C Building Collapse, MCA Robert Alai Claims
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has claimed that corruption at Nairobi County played a major role in the collapse of a multi-storey residential building in South C, Nairobi. According to Alai, a bribe of KSh 25 million allegedly allowed the building owner to add extra floors beyond what was legally approved.
In a public statement, Alai said the building, located at LR No. 209/5909/10, was originally approved to have 12 floors. However, he claims that five additional floors were later added illegally after county officials within the Nairobi County Physical Planning Department were allegedly bribed. This turned the structure into a 17-storey apartment, raising serious safety concerns.

The building collapsed in the early hours of the morning, at around 5 am, causing panic among residents in the area. Unofficial reports indicate that at least three people lost their lives, while several others are believed to be trapped under the rubble. Emergency teams rushed to the scene as rescue operations continued.
The incident has once again brought attention to the problem of corruption, poor enforcement of building regulations, and unsafe construction in Nairobi. Kenyans online have expressed anger, calling for the arrest of those involved and demanding accountability from county officials.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the collapse. Still, investigations are expected to focus on building approvals, compliance with safety standards, and possible corruption at City Hall. Many Kenyans are now urging the government to act firmly to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
