Marion Naipei has spoken out following the circulation of a private video that has caused intense public reaction across Kenya. The 22-year-old woman says the clip, which spread rapidly on social media, was recorded and shared without her consent, leaving her emotionally shaken and publicly humiliated.
The video, which surfaced on platforms such as Telegram and X, showed Naipei in a distressed and exposed condition. As it went viral, it triggered mixed reactions online, with many Kenyans condemning the leak while others unfairly judged her personal life.
Speaking, Naipei narrated how the incident has deeply affected her mental health, reputation, and family relationships.
According to her account, the events trace back about a year ago when she met a man identified as James Opande through WhatsApp. At the time, Opande was reportedly living in the United States and working in the healthcare sector. Their relationship grew online, with Opande allegedly making promises of a future together, including relocating her to the US.
When Opande later traveled to Kenya, the two agreed to meet in Nairobi. Naipei says they went out to a club, where she ordered food and drinks. Shortly after, she began feeling unusually dizzy and disoriented. She now believes that was the moment her trust was violated.
Naipei claims she later discovered that Opande had secretly recorded her while she was intoxicated, capturing private moments she never consented to being filmed or shared.
The release of the video online shocked her, especially after it reached relatives, friends, and strangers around the world. In an emotional interview, she described the experience as a betrayal that changed her life overnight.

Mosiria, known for assisting citizens facing injustice, took up the matter and coordinated with authorities. He confirmed that two individuals—a man and a woman—suspected of helping circulate the video were arrested and taken to Buruburu Police Station. The suspects are being investigated under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.
Meanwhile, Opande was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as he allegedly attempted to leave the country. Reports indicate there were talks of settling the matter outside court, but the discussions failed.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) also issued a warning to the public, urging Kenyans to stop sharing the clip. The agency described the act as illegal and disturbing, noting that distributing intimate content without consent carries serious legal consequences, including fines and imprisonment.
Legal expert Danstan Omari explained that such cases go beyond moral debates and fall squarely under privacy and cybercrime laws. He emphasized that secretly recording and sharing intimate material amounts to exploitation, regardless of the relationship between the individuals involved.
Online discussions further complicated the situation after some users misidentified Naipei, wrongly calling her Irene Wanjiku. The confusion sparked unnecessary tribal attacks, which many condemned as unfair and misleading. Others came to her defense, pointing out that no one deserves public shaming over a violation of privacy.
The controversy also drew criticism toward Mosiria, with some online users mocking his involvement. The backlash reportedly led to his temporary suspension from a men’s social group, a move that further fueled debate.

Women’s rights activists say the case highlights growing dangers in online dating and digital relationships. They are calling for stronger protections, better public awareness, and tougher enforcement against cyber exploitation.
While Opande has disputed some allegations, claiming both parties were intoxicated and that his phone may have been compromised, Naipei maintains that she never consented to the recording or its distribution.
