Meet President William Ruto's Rarely Known Four Brothers and Only Sister

For more than ten years, William Ruto has remained one of the most powerful and influential political figures in Kenya. His journey in national leadership began during the era of Daniel arap Moi, where he was active in youth politics. Over the years, Ruto rose through the ranks and later served as Deputy President under Uhuru Kenyatta for a decade before winning the presidency in the 2022 General Election.

While the Head of State is widely known both locally and internationally, many Kenyans know little about his family background. Interestingly, among his siblings, Ruto is the only one who ventured into active politics. The rest have chosen quieter careers in business and other professional fields.

Below is a closer look at the President’s four brothers and one sister, who largely keep their lives away from the political spotlight.

Paul Maritim Cheruiyot

Paul Maritim Cheruiyot is the eldest child in the family of Daniel Cheruiyot and Sarah Cheruiyot. Unlike his younger brother, Paul chose to pursue opportunities in business instead of politics.

He has occasionally spoken to the media about their upbringing. In one past interview, Paul shared memories of their childhood and recalled how young William Ruto often showed strong leadership ambitions even at an early age.

Samuel Ruto

Another brother of the President is Samuel Ruto, who is known for maintaining a very private life. Just like his elder brother Paul, Samuel stays away from public attention and politics.

He is reportedly involved in business activities, although little information about his ventures is publicly available.

David Samoei Ruto

David Samoei Ruto, a younger brother of the President, is a businessman and information technology professional. He has built a career spanning more than two decades in different sectors including IT, manufacturing, retail, consulting, and professional services.

David is also known as the founder and chairman of Kirongosi Group, a company involved in project development and execution in partnership with both local and national governments.

Harrison Kiptoo Ruto

Harrison Kiptoo Ruto, another member of the family, passed away in July 2016 at the age of 36. Reports indicated that he died after battling kidney cancer, with complications linked to liver and kidney failure.

Before his death, he had been receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

Susan Samoei Ruto

Susan Samoei Ruto is the only sister in the family. Like her brothers, she lives a largely private life and is rarely seen in public events involving the President.

Her name once appeared in the news in 2018 after a man was arrested for impersonating her in an attempt to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

Although President William Ruto is constantly in the public eye due to his political role, his siblings have largely chosen to remain behind the scenes, focusing on their personal careers and businesses away from national politics.
