How Brake Failure Led to Tragic Road Crash That Killed 8 in Mai Mahiu

A tragic road accident has left eight people dead after a trailer reportedly lost control and crashed into a personal vehicle along the Narok-Mai Mahiu road.

The accident happened on Saturday evening, April 25, near Duka Moja, between Ntulele and Mai Mahiu.

According to early police reports, the trailer was travelling from Narok towards Mai Mahiu when it developed brake failure. The driver is said to have lost control, causing the lorry to move into the opposite lane.

The trailer then rammed head-on into a Toyota Voxy coming from the opposite direction.

All seven passengers who were inside the Voxy died on the spot. The victims included three men and four women.

The driver of the trailer suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Narok Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.

Police officers from Ntulele Station arrived at the scene and began clearing the wreckage as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to the hospital mortuary, where they are waiting for identification and a postmortem.

This latest tragedy comes just weeks after another deadly road accident in Nyeri.

In the Nyeri incident, at least 15 people lost their lives after a lorry carrying firewood overturned near Dedan Kimathi University and crashed into a public service vehicle.

Several other passengers were injured and rushed to Nyeri County Referral Hospital.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga later confirmed that the death toll had risen to 15.

He urged motorists to be extra careful, especially during the rainy season, saying damaged roads and potholes are increasing the risk of accidents.

President William Ruto also sent his condolences to the families affected by the Nyeri tragedy.

Road safety concerns continue to grow across the country as more fatal accidents are reported on major highways.
