Safaricom Explains How Kenyans Can Increase Their Fuliza Limits
2 min read
Safaricom has explained how customers can increase their Fuliza limits apart from using the service regularly and repaying loans on time.
The company responded after a customer complained that his Fuliza limit had remained the same for years despite using the overdraft service daily.
Fuliza is a service that allows M-Pesa users to complete transactions even when they do not have enough money in their accounts.
According to Safaricom, Fuliza limits are normally reviewed after every three months, depending on how customers use different Safaricom services.
What Determines Fuliza Limit Increase
Safaricom said the Fuliza limit is not only based on loan repayment history. The company explained that several activities on a customer’s line are also considered.
These include:
- M-Pesa usage
- Airtime top-ups
- Buying data bundles
- Voice calls
- SMS usage
The clarification came after an X user identified as Hillary Koech asked why his limit had failed to increase despite repaying his Fuliza balance on time.
In response, Safaricom said a customer’s activity across its services helps determine whether the limit can be increased.
The company explained that customers who frequently use Safaricom services build a stronger profile, which may improve their chances of getting a higher Fuliza limit in future.
Reasons Why the Fuliza Limit Can Be Reduced
Safaricom also revealed that Fuliza limits can go down depending on several factors.
Some of the things considered include:
- CRB credit score
- Savings on M-Shwari
- Usage of KCB M-Pesa
- M-Pesa transactions
- Voice and data usage
- Late repayment of Fuliza
According to Safaricom, customers who delay repaying Fuliza or opt out of the service may see their limits reduced.
Who Qualifies for Fuliza
M-Pesa users registered using a Kenyan national ID, Kenyan passport, or Military ID can activate Fuliza. However, not every customer automatically qualifies for a loan limit after registration.
Safaricom also stated that accounts registered using foreign passports cannot access Fuliza services.
Customers with multiple M-Pesa lines are treated separately, meaning each line can receive its own Fuliza limit.
Eligible customers usually receive messages from Safaricom informing them that they qualify for the service.
