HELB Opens KMTC Loans for Certificate & Diploma Students 2026/2027

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has opened loan applications for students taking Certificate and Diploma courses at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).

The 2026/2027 application window opened on August 21, 2026, and students have until September 30, 2026 to apply.

KMTC has urged eligible students to submit their applications early to avoid problems associated with last-minute applications.

How KMTC Students Can Apply for the HELB Loan

Students interested in the loan are required to apply online through the Higher Education Financing Portal.

The application process involves:

  1. Registering or logging into the Higher Education Financing Portal.
  2. Selecting the KMTC loan option.
  3. Following the instructions provided on the portal.
  4. Providing the required information and checking that all details are correct.
  5. Submitting the completed application.

After successfully submitting the application, students should receive an application number through SMS or email.

Who Can Apply?

The loan is available to KMTC students pursuing Certificate and Diploma courses who meet the required eligibility conditions.

The opening of the HELB loan programme is expected to help KMTC students who have faced challenges raising money to pay for their education.

Previously, KMTC students mainly relied on the college’s revolving fund, while university students could access HELB loans and other government financial support.

The inclusion of KMTC students in the higher education financing programme gives medical trainees greater access to government education funding.

Students who qualify are therefore advised to complete their applications before the September 30 deadline.
