Lenny, the matatu driver widely known for working with President William Ruto’s son, George Ruto, has shared how he got the opportunity to work for him and how his role has changed over time.
In an interview on the Over 1M Podcast, Lenny explained that his journey started when George’s team bought a matatu he was driving.
How Lenny started working for George Ruto
Lenny revealed that he was driving a matatu known as Matrix before he started working with George Ruto.
His former employer later decided to sell the vehicle, and George Ruto’s team bought it. Instead of bringing in a new driver, the new owner chose to retain Lenny.
According to Lenny, his employer was comfortable with him because he had earned his trust while driving the matatu.
The decision opened the door for him to continue working with George’s team, and his responsibilities gradually increased.

Lenny now manages eight vehicles
Lenny disclosed that he is no longer just a driver. He now coordinates a fleet of vehicles operating under George Ruto’s 98 Sacco.
He said the fleet has eight vehicles and that his current duties involve overseeing their operations.
Lenny also explained that the Sacco has other managers who handle different routes, while he coordinates the wider operation.
His story shows how a job that started with driving one matatu eventually led to greater responsibilities in transport management.
For many Kenyans familiar with the matatu industry, Lenny’s journey highlights how trust, experience and new opportunities can open doors to career growth.
