Canada Invites 2,500 Skilled Workers to Apply for Permanent Residence
2 min read
Canada has issued 2,500 invitations to skilled foreign workers to apply for permanent residence through its Express Entry immigration system.
The latest draw was conducted on Thursday, October 15, 2026, and targeted applicants eligible under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), invited candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 519 to qualify.
Candidates who had the required score were eligible for an invitation, subject to the draw’s ranking and tie-breaking rules.
How Canada’s Express Entry System Works
Express Entry is an immigration system that Canada uses to select skilled workers who want to become permanent residents.
Applicants create profiles and are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The system awards points based on factors such as age, education, English or French language ability, and work experience.
Candidates with higher scores generally have a better chance of receiving an invitation, although the required score varies from one draw to another.
Who Qualifies for Express Entry?
Applicants must qualify for at least one of three immigration programmes managed through Express Entry:
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC): For eligible skilled workers with Canadian work experience.
- Federal Skilled Worker Program: For skilled workers who meet the programme’s requirements, including work experience, education and language ability.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program: For eligible workers with experience in qualifying skilled trades.
The October 15 draw specifically targeted candidates who qualified under the Canadian Experience Class. This means that meeting the CRS score alone was not enough; applicants also had to meet the programme’s eligibility requirements.
What This Means for Kenyans Seeking to Move to Canada
Kenyans interested in moving to Canada for work and permanent residence should first check which immigration programme they qualify for.
Having a job offer is not a universal requirement for all Express Entry applicants, but candidates must meet the relevant programme criteria and provide the required documents.
Applicants should also understand that receiving an invitation is not the same as being granted permanent residence. Those invited must submit a complete application, which is then assessed by Canadian immigration authorities.
Prospective applicants can check the official Canadian government immigration website for eligibility requirements, CRS information and the latest Express Entry draws.
With competition for permanent residence places, applicants should ensure their profiles contain accurate information and that they meet all applicable requirements before submitting an application.
