France Govt Announces Scholarships for Kenyans With KSh180K Monthly Allowance

The French government has opened applications for the 2027 France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship, allowing eligible Kenyan students to pursue master’s and doctoral studies in France.

The scholarship provides master’s students with a monthly allowance of €1,200 (approximately KSh180,000), while PhD students can receive €2,000 (approximately KSh300,000), according to Campus France.

The programme also provides support for international travel, insurance, transport within France and assistance in finding accommodation. However, students should note that the scholarship does not automatically cover all tuition fees.

According to Campus France, applications for the 2027 scholarship round opened on October 2, 2026. The deadline for French universities to submit applications is January 6, 2027.

Who Is Eligible for the France Scholarship?

The France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship targets outstanding international students seeking to pursue master’s or doctoral studies in France.

According to the programme’s eligibility guidelines, applicants must be nominated by a French higher education institution. Students cannot submit their scholarship applications directly to Campus France.

The programme has an age limit of 29 years

Kenyans interested in the scholarship should identify a suitable French university and contact its admissions or international relations office to confirm the requirements for their preferred course.

Courses Covered by the Scholarship

The scholarship supports eligible programmes in science, technology, humanities and social sciences.

The seven areas of study include:

  • Biology and Health
  • Ecological Transition
  • Mathematics and Digital Technology
  • Engineering Sciences
  • History, French Language and Civilisation
  • Law and Political Science
  • Economics and Management

Applicants should confirm that their chosen course falls within the eligible fields and that the university can nominate them for the scholarship.

How Much Money Do Successful Applicants Receive?

The monthly allowance depends on the level of study.

  • Master’s students: €1,200, approximately KSh180,000 per month.
  • PhD students: €2,000, approximately KSh300,000 per month.

The amounts in Kenyan shillings are estimates and may change depending on the exchange rate.

In addition to the allowance, successful applicants may receive support for international flights, eligible local transport, insurance and accommodation searches. The programme also organises cultural activities for scholarship recipients.

Students should confirm the tuition charges with their chosen institution because the scholarship does not cover all course fees in every situation.

How Long Does the Scholarship Last?

The funding period depends on the course and the applicant’s level of study.

Master’s students joining the first year may receive funding for up to 24 months, while those joining the second year may receive funding for up to 12 months.

Eligible engineering students may receive funding for up to 36 months.

At doctoral level, funding can last between 12 and 36 months, depending on the programme and the applicant’s circumstances.

For the 2027 scholarship round, the funded studies are expected to begin between September 1 and November 30, 2027.

How Kenyans Can Apply for the France Scholarship

Kenyans interested in the scholarship should follow these steps:

  1. Choose a French university: Identify an institution offering your preferred master’s or doctoral programme.
  2. Contact the university: Ask its international relations office about admission requirements, scholarship eligibility and internal application deadlines.
  3. Prepare your documents: Follow the university’s instructions on the academic records and other documents required.
  4. Seek university nomination: The institution must select and support your application for the Eiffel Scholarship.
  5. Meet the deadline: Ensure your application reaches the university early enough for it to submit the nomination to Campus France.

French higher education institutions must submit their candidates’ applications by January 6, 2027. Individual universities may set earlier deadlines, so applicants should contact them as soon as possible.

Students can also seek guidance from Campus France or the French Embassy’s relevant education and cultural department.
