A Catholic priest has died during a church livestream after a wooden crucifix mounted on the wall above the altar reportedly detached from its fixtures and fell, striking him on the head with such force that he collapsed.

The incident happened during an evening Saturday Mass and spread widely online because the service was being livestreamed. Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari reportedly went direct to SAYUN.

Congregants at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help erupted into screams, with many left confused and shocked by what had happened.

Before beginning his sermon, the priest had shared a word of God, saying, “One day, all of us who are here are also going to die,” while urging people to give more time to God and less time to material distractions such as phones, social media, and money.
