Arsenal Fans’ Title Celebrations Turned Sour After 8 Arrested and Fined in Eldoret

Eight Arsenal supporters have been fined Ksh 500 each by a court in Eldoret after they admitted to causing a disturbance and behaving in a disorderly manner during celebrations of Arsenal’s Premier League title victory.
The eight appeared before Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Daniel Sitati, where they pleaded guilty to the charges.
Those charged included David Kipchumba, James Mwangi, Peter Nyaucho, Omar Olentimama, Jesse Murei, Vincent Amoke, Peter Wambua, and Gilbert Kurri.
According to the prosecution, the group was arrested on the night of May 20 in Kimumu Estate, Eldoret, shortly after Arsenal were confirmed as the 2025/26 Premier League champions.
The title was sealed after Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth, giving Arsenal an advantage that could no longer be overturned.
Police officers who were patrolling the area reportedly found the fans celebrating loudly on the streets and disturbing residents as they marked Arsenal’s first league title in 22 years.
The victory was historic for Arsenal supporters because the club last won the Premier League title during Arsene Wenger’s famous “Invincibles” season in 2003/04.
While addressing the court, the fans asked for forgiveness and requested a lighter punishment. They explained that excitement and happiness pushed them into excessive celebrations.
They also promised the court that they would maintain peace during future football celebrations and avoid causing public disturbance.
During the ruling, Magistrate Daniel Sitati questioned why many young people show huge passion for foreign football clubs while giving little support to local Kenyan teams.
He encouraged football fans to also support Kenyan clubs, saying local teams continue to perform well in both local and regional competitions.
The court ordered each of the eight fans to pay a fine of Ksh 500 or face a jail term if they failed to pay.
