Atletico Madrid made a dream start against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final, scoring two quick goals to take a 2-0 lead at the Metropolitano Stadium.
The home side opened the scoring just seven minutes into the match after a costly mistake by Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia. A simple pass from Eric Garcia rolled under his foot and into the net, handing Atletico an unexpected early advantage.
Atletico continued to press and doubled their lead in the 14th minute through Antoine Griezmann. The French forward finished off a brilliant team move after receiving a pass from Nahuel Molina, curling the ball past the goalkeeper from inside the box.
Barcelona tried to respond and came close when their effort struck the woodwork, denying them a chance to get back into the game. Atletico, however, remained dangerous in attack, with Griezmann testing the Barcelona goalkeeper again moments later.
Griezmann has been in excellent form in the Copa del Rey this season, scoring five goals in his last four matches, making him the competition’s leading scorer.
The atmosphere at the Metropolitano Stadium was electric, with Atletico fans creating a vibrant backdrop for the high-stakes semi-final encounter. With Barcelona being the defending champions and Atletico aiming to return to the final for the first time since their 2012–13 triumph, the match promised drama and intensity.
As the game continues, Barcelona will be under pressure to mount a comeback, while Atletico Madrid look to maintain their strong lead and move closer to the Copa del Rey final.
