First-Year Students Can Now Check Updated Fees After HELB Funding
First-year university students who applied for government funding through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) can now check their updated fee statements through their university student portals.
The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) announced that HELB had completed the financial aid allocation process for students who submitted their applications by September 3, 2026.
The university said the updated fee statements would show the amount each student is expected to contribute after government funding has been applied.
This means students can now find out how much they need to pay as they prepare for registration and other university activities.
How to Check Your Updated Fees
Students can check their updated fee statements through their university portals.
To check:
- Log in to your university student portal.
- Go to the fees or finance section.
- Open your updated fee statement.
- Check the amount covered through government funding.
- Check your household contribution and any remaining balance.
Students should contact their university if their funding information has not yet appeared on the portal.
HELB Application Deadline Extended
Students who have not yet applied for HELB loans or scholarships have been given more time to submit their applications.
The new deadline is September 21, 2026.
The Ministry of Education said the extension was meant to give eligible university students and TVET trainees who missed the initial deadline another opportunity to apply for government funding.
The funding application period initially opened on June 1 and was scheduled to close on August 31.
Students who had not applied were advised to submit their applications through the Higher Education Funding (HEF) Portal before the new deadline.
Students with questions about their funding can therefore seek assistance from their university or the relevant HELB support desk.
