2 min read
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has opened applications for the 2026/27 Jielimishe Loan, targeting salaried Kenyans who want to further their education while continuing with their jobs.
Eligible learners can borrow up to Ksh600,000 to pay for approved higher education programmes.
The Jielimishe Loan is available to employed Kenyans pursuing university, postgraduate, professional and other approved higher education courses.
How Much Can You Borrow?
Successful applicants can access up to Ksh600,000, depending on their eligibility and the requirements of the programme.
The loan attracts an interest rate of 10 per cent per year.
Borrowers can repay the loan over a period of between 12 and 48 months.
Repayments can be made through monthly deductions from the borrower’s salary through the employer’s payroll system.
Who Can Apply for the Jielimishe Loan?
The loan is mainly designed for salaried Kenyans who are already working but want to advance their education.
It can help employed learners pursue higher qualifications without having to leave their jobs.
Applicants should be enrolled in an approved programme that qualifies for the Jielimishe financing.
How to Apply for the HELB Jielimishe Loan
Eligible salaried learners can submit their applications through the HELB online platform.
Applicants are encouraged to apply early to allow enough time for processing.
The loan also includes a credit life insurance policy, which provides additional protection to borrowers during the repayment period.
Existing HELB Borrowers
Kenyans who already have HELB loans are required to continue making their repayments according to the repayment schedule.
Keeping up with repayments can help borrowers obtain a HELB compliance certificate, while those who clear their loans can apply for a clearance certificate.
HELB has continued to encourage borrowers to repay their loans on time because the money is used to support other students seeking education financing.
