How Grade 10 Learners Can Change School Choices Before 2026 Admission
The Ministry of Education has explained how Grade 10 learners can change their selected senior schools before the 2026 admission process is completed.
According to guidelines from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), learners who are not satisfied with their initial placement still have a chance to request a school change—if they follow the correct procedure.
Accessing Grade 10 Admission Details
After placement results are released, learners will be able to see the schools they have been admitted to.
-
Admission letters and joining instructions will be available online
-
Parents will need the learner’s assessment number to access the details
-
Both public and private schools must admit learners through the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS)
Schools are also required to update learner reporting daily through KEMIS to ensure transparency.
Importantly, principals are not allowed to enter a learner into the system unless the learner has physically reported to the school.
Procedure for Changing Grade 10 School Choices
Learners who wish to change their selected senior school must follow these steps:
-
Senior schools will announce available spaces through their County Directors of Education
-
Transfer requests must be submitted through the head of the junior school
-
Applications should be made at least two weeks before the official reporting date
-
Priority will be given to learners who had previously selected the school they are applying to
-
Approval depends on the school’s official capacity, as verified by the Ministry of Education
Once a transfer is approved:
-
New joining instructions will be accessed online
-
Schools are not allowed to issue printed admission letters
-
A learner is allowed only one replacement, and it cannot be reversed
