Ichung’wah Advises Kenyans to Invest in Affordable Housing for Airbnb Income

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah has encouraged Kenyans to consider buying affordable housing units and turning them into Airbnb businesses as a way of making money.
Speaking during an interview on Friday, April 24, the lawmaker said short-stay accommodation is a profitable business that many Kenyans can venture into.
According to Ichung’wah, he already owns several Airbnb units in Kikuyu Town, and the business is doing well.
He said the same idea can work in other parts of Kenya, especially through the government’s Affordable Housing Programme.
“I have a few Airbnbs in Kikuyu, and I have people managing them for me. I have discovered that it is a good business,” he said.
The MP urged Kenyans looking for investment opportunities to buy affordable housing units and use them as short-stay rental houses.
He explained that the houses can help people generate a regular income, especially in areas with high demand for accommodation.
This comes as President William Ruto continues to push the Affordable Housing Programme as one of the key projects under his administration.
The programme aims to provide decent and affordable homes to Kenyans while also creating employment opportunities in the construction sector.
Last year, President Ruto also urged Kenyans living abroad to invest in the housing project, saying it is a secure and reliable investment.
He noted that many Kenyans in the diaspora have previously lost money through fake land and housing deals handled by relatives or friends.
The president assured them that homes bought under the government programme would be delivered as promised.
The government has set a target of building at least one million housing units by 2028.
In areas such as Kibera in Nairobi, thousands of units are already under construction as part of efforts to improve housing and reduce informal settlements.
