The Ministry of Education has dismissed reports claiming that the reopening of schools has been postponed, confirming that the third term will begin on August 24, 2026, as earlier planned.
The State Department for Basic Education issued the clarification on Wednesday, August 19, after a notice claiming that schools would reopen later began circulating on social media.
The ministry said the notice was fake and urged parents, teachers, learners and the public to ignore it.
The fake notice claimed that Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba had postponed the reopening date to September 15 for senior schools and secondary schools.
However, the Ministry of Education confirmed that schools will reopen on August 24 and remain open until October 23, 2026, marking the end of the third term.
