Treasury Invites Kenyans to Submit Views on 2026/27 Budget Before June Statement

The National Treasury has invited Kenyans to share their ideas and recommendations as the government prepares the 2026/27 Budget Statement.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has asked members of the public, institutions, and other stakeholders to send proposals that can help shape the next financial year’s budget.

According to a notice published on MyGov on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the Budget Statement will be presented in Parliament on June 11, 2026.

The Treasury said the proposals should focus on practical and creative ideas that can help guide government spending plans, tax measures, and economic policies for the coming financial year.

Part of the notice stated that the Treasury is looking for public views on economic policy, expenditure priorities, and tax proposals before the budget is finalised.

The government has also asked Kenyans to give suggestions that support its key priorities under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Some of the areas highlighted include lowering the cost of living, improving food security, and creating more opportunities for youth, women, and vulnerable groups through business, jobs, and leadership positions.

The Treasury is also seeking ideas on improving education and skills development, promoting exports, ensuring affordable and reliable energy, and strengthening transport and logistics systems.

In addition, the government wants proposals on how to maintain economic stability, especially at a time when the country is facing climate change effects and global economic uncertainties.

Other key areas include improving domestic revenue collection, widening the tax base, enhancing tax compliance, and ensuring tax measures do not place extra pressure on households and businesses.

The notice further emphasised the need for fiscal discipline and proper use of public resources to support inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Kenyans have been asked to submit their views through the National Treasury’s official email address before 5 pm on May 8, 2026, so that the proposals can be considered before the final budget is presented.
