16-Storey Building Under Construction Collapses in South C, Nairobi
A multi-storey building that was under construction collapsed on Friday, January 2, in the Shopping Centre area of South C, Nairobi, causing panic among residents and people passing by.
The incident left the area covered in thick dust and debris, forcing nearby shop owners and residents to flee for safety as fears grew that people could be trapped under the rubble.

The Kenya Red Cross and multi-agency response team were deployed immediately to handle the situation.
“”Early this morning, a building under construction collapsed in the Shopping Centre area of South C, Nairobi County. A multi-agency response team is on site managing the situation,” the Red Cross said.
Search and rescue efforts are ongoing as teams work to secure the area and assess the damage.
No official statement had been released by the Nairobi County Government, the national government, or the National Construction Authority (NCA) is expected to explain what caused the collapse.

Residents have raised concerns over safety standards at construction sites, especially in busy residential areas.
The South C incident comes weeks after the NCA issued a warning over unsafe buildings in Nairobi. In December, the authority cautioned the public—particularly in Westlands—after visible cracks appeared in a 13-storey building along Peponi Road.
