19-Year-Old Dies After Alleged Beating by Relatives in Turbo Sub-County

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested an uncle and aunt in connection with the death of their 19-year-old nephew following an alleged severe beating in Turbo Sub-County.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on February 2, 2026, at Kaplelach village, Kiplombe Location. Baharini Police Station officers received a distress call about a young man who had been critically assaulted.

DCI officers quickly responded to the scene, discovering the victim’s body beneath an avocado tree at his uncle’s homestead. A Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) team documented multiple injuries on the young man’s head, back, legs, and hands, as well as a blood clot from his nose.

“The victim’s body showed clear signs of brutal assault,” confirmed DCI officials, describing the case as a severe act of violence. The body was later transported to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for preservation and autopsy.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack may have been triggered by suspicions that the victim, identified as Kevin, had stolen and sold dry maize from his uncle’s home.

Reports indicate that the suspects allegedly tied Kevin to an avocado tree and beat him with sticks and canes until he lost consciousness and died. Investigators recovered key evidence at the scene, including the rope used to restrain him and broken sticks, which have been preserved for further analysis.

Both suspects remain in police custody as authorities continue to process them ahead of arraignment in court.

The DCI has urged the public to report cases of abuse and to avoid taking the law into their own hands. “This incident is a stark reminder that no one is above the law. Family violence will be investigated thoroughly, and offenders will face justice,” a statement from the agency read.

Local leaders and community members condemned the act, stressing the importance of protecting young people and ensuring their safety. Residents described the incident as “harrowing,” highlighting the devastating impact of losing a young life under such circumstances.
