Akothee Praises Her ‘Son’ After He Emerges Top at Maranda Boys

Renowned Kenyan musician Akothee has expressed pride and amazement after a boy she lovingly calls her son emerged as the top student at Maranda Boys High School in the 2025 KCSE examinations.

Taking to social media, Akothee celebrated the exceptional achievement of Darel Austine Kokeyo, who posted an impressive mean grade of A, placing him at the top of his school. The artist shared emotional messages, saying the results left her deeply touched.

Akothee revealed that Darel’s journey has not been easy, especially after losing his mother. She noted that the achievement was not just about academic success but also about resilience, discipline, and determination.

“I am still in shock. This young man has made me so proud. I wish his mother was alive to see this,” Akothee shared.

The musician explained that Darel is a close friend to her son, Ojwang Ja Swiss, and over time, he became part of her family. She described him as respectful, focused, and well-mannered, qualities she believes played a big role in his success.

To celebrate the outstanding performance, Akothee promised to reward him with a special gift. After asking him what he wanted, Darel requested a MacBook laptop, which he said would help him with online learning and future studies. Akothee quickly agreed and asked him to send the invoice for purchase.

Darel’s KCSE results reflected his excellence across several subjects. He scored straight As in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Geography, while earning A- grades in English, Physics, and Aviation Technology. He scored a B (plain) in Kiswahili.

The story has sparked admiration online, with many Kenyans praising both Darel’s discipline and Akothee’s support. Fans described the moment as inspiring, especially for students preparing for national examinations.
