She Topped KCPE in 2017 but Never Sat for KCSE: The Story of Goldalyn Kakuya

Goldalyn Kakuya captured nationwide attention in 2017 after posting an outstanding 455 marks out of 500 in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams. She sat her exams at St Anne’s Academy in Kakamega County, instantly becoming a household name across Kenya.

What Happened After KCPE?

Four years later, many Kenyans expected to hear her name when the late Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha announced the 2021 KCSE results. However, her name was missing—raising curiosity and questions.

Why Goldalyn Kakuya Did Not Sit for KCSE

Goldalyn did not sit for the 2021 KCSE because she transitioned from the 8-4-4 system to the British IGCSE curriculum. This move was made possible after former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta sponsored her education at Brookhouse School, Karen.

She had initially joined Kenya High School in 2018 but transferred after one year to continue her studies under the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) system.

Goldalyn joined Year 10, which is equivalent to Form Two in the 8-4-4 system.

Excelling Under the IGCSE System

Despite the change in curriculum, Goldalyn maintained her high academic standards. In 2020, she emerged second overall in her school’s Year 11 exams, finishing just behind Sean Theuri.

Her results were impressive—eight A*s and two As. The IGCSE system requires students to take core subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, and at least one science subject.

Recognition From National Leaders

Goldalyn’s excellence earned praise from top leaders, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, who both expressed admiration for her resilience, brilliance, and determination.

Her journey continues to inspire young learners across Kenya, proving that excellence knows no limitations.
