The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has taken action against corruption on Kenyan roads following the arrest of three traffic police officers accused of engaging in bribery along the busy Nairobi–Mombasa Highway.
The officers, all holding the rank of corporal, were arrested at a roadblock in the Kyumbi area near Machakos Junction. They are attached to the Kyumbi Traffic Police Base in Machakos County. According to EACC officials, the suspects were allegedly demanding and receiving bribes from motorists using the highway.
EACC detectives confirmed that the arrests were carried out on Tuesday, although one officer managed to escape during the operation. The commission said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the remaining suspect.

After their arrest, the three officers were taken to the EACC Lower Eastern Regional Office in Machakos, where they were formally processed and recorded statements as investigations continue.
The arrests come at a time when concerns are growing over road safety in Kenya, with an increase in road accidents being linked to corruption and lax enforcement of traffic laws.
EACC has once again appealed to Kenyans to speak out against corruption, especially within law enforcement agencies. The commission emphasized that public cooperation is critical in restoring integrity and improving safety on the country’s roads.

In a statement, EACC Head of Communications Stephen Karuga encouraged both civilians and police officers to report any bribery incidents, saying the fight against corruption is a shared responsibility aimed at strengthening public trust and accountability.
