Why Former CS and Rarieda MP Raphael Tuju Divorced His Wife Ruth Akinyi

The marriage between former Cabinet Secretary and former Rarieda Member of Parliament Raphael Tuju and his ex-wife Ruth Akinyi once appeared strong and successful. The couple lived a comfortable life in the leafy suburb of Karen, one of Nairobi’s most affluent neighborhoods.

However, their relationship later collapsed after serious allegations emerged about an alleged affair involving Ruth and Tuju’s bodyguard, Tony Ogunda.

Affair Allegations That Broke the Marriage

Reports at the time claimed that Tuju discovered that his wife was allegedly involved in a secret relationship with his bodyguard. The accusations shocked many people because the family was known to live a quiet and private life.

The scandal quickly became public and attracted widespread attention. The accusations eventually led to the breakdown of the marriage and the couple went their separate ways through a divorce.

Mystery Surrounding the Death of Tony Ogunda

The situation became even more dramatic in 2013 when Tony Ogunda was found dead in his rented house in Nairobi.

According to reports, a post-mortem examination showed that he had suffered serious head injuries and internal bleeding. The circumstances surrounding his death raised many questions and led to speculation among members of the public.

What made the case even more controversial was that Ogunda had appeared in court only a few days earlier in relation to the divorce proceedings between Tuju and his wife.

Life After the Scandal

Since the divorce, the lives of the former couple have taken very different paths. Reports indicate that Ruth Akinyi now runs a small food stall in Eastlands where she sells chapati and matumbo to earn a living.

This lifestyle is very different from the comfortable life she once enjoyed while living in Karen.

On the other hand, Raphael Tuju has also faced financial challenges in recent years. He has been involved in a legal dispute over a loan amounting to about KSh 2 billion linked to a failed hotel project. The dispute has even threatened his ownership of property in Karen.
