NYS Begins Nationwide Recruitment Exercise for Youth

The National Youth Service (NYS) has started a countrywide recruitment exercise aimed at giving young Kenyans a chance to join the service.

According to a notice released on Monday, March 16, the recruitment will take place in all sub-counties across the country. The exercise will run from March 16 to March 21, 2026.

The agency has asked interested youth to visit the recruitment centers located in their sub-counties and participate in the selection process.

In its announcement, the service said the recruitment had officially started nationwide as earlier communicated.

Benefits of Joining NYS

NYS encouraged eligible young people to turn up in large numbers and take advantage of the opportunity. Successful applicants will get training that focuses on discipline, leadership, and practical skills while also serving the country.

The service operates as a government institution that trains and empowers young people through national service programs, paramilitary training, and vocational education.

Skills and Training Offered

Through its programs, recruits are taught various technical and practical skills. These include construction work, agriculture, mechanical services, and community development projects.

After training, NYS members often take part in different national activities such as disaster response, environmental conservation, and infrastructure development.

Available Job Opportunities

Earlier, the service had also announced job opportunities for both cadet officers and private officers in different departments.

More than 700 positions were advertised, including 250 cadet officer slots and 500 private positions. These roles are expected to give unemployed youth a chance to gain professional skills and employment.

Some of the available positions include drivers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, welders, mechanics, agricultural workers, plant operators, band members, secretaries, and other general duty roles.

How to Apply

Applicants were advised to download and fill out the official employment application form from the Public Service Commission website.

Completed applications can be sent through email or by post to the NYS Commandant General at the NYS Headquarters in Nairobi. The deadline for submitting the applications is March 18, 2026.
