George Ruto Makes Monthly Salary in One Day from Matatu Business
2 min read
George Ruto, son of President William Ruto, is making headlines after building a successful and stylish matatu business in Nairobi.
The young businessman owns a popular fleet known as the “Raptor Family”, which operates along busy routes such as Ngong Road and Embakasi. His matatus are not ordinary — they are well-known for their flashy designs, loud music, and premium services that attract many passengers daily.
How Many Matatus Does George Ruto Own?
George Ruto currently owns four matatus under his fleet:
- Money Fest
- Matrix
- Mood
- Raptor (the first one)
Each of these vehicles has its own unique style and branding, making them stand out in Nairobi’s competitive transport sector.
How Much Does the Matatu Business Make?
The most famous matatu in the fleet is Money Fest, which reportedly cost around KSh 20 million to buy and customize.
According to its driver, the matatu earns about KSh 500,000 per month, which translates to roughly KSh 16,000 to KSh 17,000 per day. This means the vehicle can make in one day what many Kenyans earn in a full month.
Another matatu, Mood, is a 25-seater that brings in about KSh 20,000 on a normal day. When hired for private events, its earnings can rise to as high as KSh 80,000 in a single day.
Estimated Daily and Monthly Income
If all four matatus perform well, the fleet is estimated to generate up to:
- KSh 66,000+ per day
- Close to KSh 2 million per month
However, not all vehicles earn the same amount. Factors like route, seating capacity, and demand affect daily income.
Why George Ruto’s Matatus Stand Out
The Raptor Family matatus are popular because of their luxury features, including:
- Bright LED lighting
- Custom graffiti artwork
- Powerful sound systems
One of the matatus, Raptor, was recently upgraded with a new white paint job, unique rims, and eye-catching LED lights. It also carries branding for Jamhuri Soccer Academy, helping promote the football initiative.
Growing Popularity in Nairobi
Another matatu, Matrix, was reportedly bought from a friend and quickly became a fan favorite due to its modern look and comfort.
Drivers say these high-end matatus spend very little time at bus stages because passengers prefer them, allowing them to make more trips and increase earnings.
Big Business in the Matatu Industry
George Ruto’s success shows that the matatu business in Kenya can be very profitable when done strategically. By focusing on branding, comfort, and customer experience, he has managed to turn public transport into a high-income venture.
