President Ruto to Address Tanzania Parliament

President William Ruto is expected to address the Parliament of Tanzania on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, during an important visit aimed at improving relations between Kenya and Tanzania.

The session will take place in Dodoma starting at 11 a.m., according to communication shared by Tanzania’s parliamentary leadership.

Tanzania’s Deputy Speaker, Daniel Sillo, informed Members of Parliament about the planned address, saying it will be a major and historic event. He added that top government leaders are expected to attend.

Lawmakers have been asked to be present without fail to listen to the Kenyan Head of State as he addresses both Parliament and the nation.

This visit is considered special because it will be the first time a Kenyan president addresses Tanzania’s Parliament.

President Ruto’s visit shows continued efforts by both Kenya and Tanzania to strengthen their cooperation, especially within the East African Community (EAC).

Since becoming president, Ruto has visited Tanzania several times for regional meetings and important events. In March 2026, he travelled to Arusha, where he handed over the EAC chairmanship to Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni.

During his leadership, Ruto has also pushed for reforms to improve cooperation among East African countries.

Focus on Regional Development

The visit comes at a time when Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are working together on major development projects. One of the key plans is to build a regional oil refinery in Tanga to reduce dependence on imported fuel.

Reports indicate that Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has shown interest in funding the project. The refinery is expected to process oil from Kenya, Uganda, DR Congo, and South Sudan.

Improving Kenya-Tanzania Relations

Kenya and Tanzania have had ups and downs in their relationship in the past, but recent efforts show both countries are working closely together.

Trade between the two nations has now crossed $1 billion, with leaders focusing on removing trade barriers and improving business opportunities.

President Ruto’s address is therefore expected to further strengthen the partnership and promote unity between the two neighbouring countries.
