The government spent an average of KSh639.4 million every week on travel during the 2025/26 Financial Year, according to a report by the Auditor-General.
The report shows that the government spent a total of KSh30.69 billion on travel during the 12-month financial year.
State House was the biggest spender, using about KSh2.5 billion on travel. It was followed by the Ministry of Internal Security, which spent KSh1.4 billion, while the Department of Immigration used KSh1.1 billion.
The Office of the Deputy President also spent about KSh655 million on travel during the financial year.
Local and international travel
Out of the KSh30.69 billion spent, about KSh21.98 billion went to local travel, while KSh8.71 billion was spent on international trips.
The figures mean the government spent significantly more on travel compared to the previous financial year.
According to the Auditor-General’s report, travel spending increased by KSh5.23 billion from the KSh25.46 billion recorded in the 2024/25 Financial Year.
