Motorists Warned Over Night Attacks Along Kisumu-Busia Road

Motorists travelling between Kisumu and Busia have been warned to be extra careful, especially at night, following a reported attack near Maseno.

A driver travelling from Kisumu towards Busia on Friday, September 4, 2026, said unknown youths attacked his vehicle and smashed the windscreen.

The driver said the attackers then followed him while carrying pangas and rungus, forcing him to raise the alarm and warn other motorists using the busy highway.

“Those coming from Kisumu heading to Busia, be careful. There are some youths around the Maseno area,” the driver said.

Drivers urged to avoid the road at night

The incident has raised fresh security concerns among motorists who regularly use the Kisumu-Busia highway.

The Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LODDCA) urged drivers to avoid the route at night where possible.

The association also called on the National Police Service (NPS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to increase patrols along the highway.

“The Kisumu-Busia route is worse, especially at night. Drivers, if possible, avoid this route at night. NPS and the DCI should increase their patrols,” LODDCA said.

Nairobi Expressway robbery also raises concern

The warning comes shortly after another reported robbery on the Nairobi Expressway.

A video circulating online appears to show a group of men approaching vehicles and allegedly robbing motorists before leaving the area in their vehicle.

The incident has caused concern among motorists, who are questioning how such attacks can happen on major roads, including controlled-access highways.

As of Friday, there was no official response from the police regarding the reported incidents.

Motorists have urged security agencies to increase patrols and take action against criminals targeting road users.
