Househelp in Ruai Allegedly Poisons Employer’s 4-Year-Old Daughter Over Salary Dispute

A family in Ruai is in deep pain after a four-year-old girl died in a suspected poisoning incident involving a househelp.

The child’s mother, Anne Wanjiru, said she had hired the househelp through a local bureau in Ruai. According to their agreement, the worker was to receive her KSh6,000 salary on the 3rd day of every month.

However, things took a different turn on Friday, May 1, when the househelp reportedly became angry and started demanding her salary earlier than agreed.

Wanjiru explained that the worker called her, insisting on immediate payment. When she told her that she had not yet received her own salary, the househelp said she was quitting the job and asked her to collect the child from a neighbour.

Later that evening, Wanjiru picked up her daughter but noticed that the child was not feeling well. The girl complained of stomach pain and even vomited when she tried to eat.

The mother said she managed to put the child to sleep at around 9 pm, hoping she would get better.

But at around 11 pm, when she went to check on her, she found the child unresponsive and cold.

With the help of a neighbour, they rushed her to RFH Hospital in Ruai, but doctors confirmed that she had already passed away before arriving at the hospital.

The househelp, identified as Joyce Onyango from Kisumu, is suspected of having poisoned the child before leaving. She is said to have switched off her phone around Githurai and is currently on the run.

The child’s body has been taken to Kenyatta University Funeral Home as investigations continue.
