Details of Uhuru Kenyatta Meeting Deputy President Kindiki in Uganda

Former president Uhuru Kenyatta met Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in Uganda during the swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni.

The two leaders shared a light moment at the event held in Kampala on Tuesday, May 12. A video shared online showed Uhuru smiling and chatting warmly with Kindiki before the ceremony started.

According to the video, Uhuru asked Kindiki whether he had arrived in Uganda that morning or the previous day. After Kindiki said he had travelled on the same day, Uhuru jokingly replied that he had arrived earlier, making both leaders laugh.

Uhuru also hinted at another future meeting with the deputy president.

“We have a date with you which we have not fulfilled yet,” Uhuru told Kindiki during their short conversation.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds and was attended by several African leaders, diplomats and government officials from different countries.

Kindiki represented President William Ruto at the event because Ruto was in Nairobi attending the Africa Forward Summit alongside visiting leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron.

Several Kenyan leaders also attended the Uganda event together with Kindiki, among them former Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba.

During the ceremony, Uhuru also received cheers from part of the crowd when his name was mentioned among former African leaders attending the inauguration.

Other leaders present included Tanzania president Samia Suluhu Hassan, South Sudan president Salva Kiir and DRC president Félix Tshisekedi.

After the event, Kindiki said Kenya and Uganda continue to enjoy strong relations built on trade, regional cooperation and long-standing friendship.

He added that Kenya is ready to continue working closely with Uganda to improve economic growth and strengthen East African unity.

The meeting between Uhuru and Kindiki came at a time when some Kenya Kwanza leaders have been criticising Uhuru over claims that he is still involved in active politics.
