Rigathi Gachagua Hints at Attending Mashujaa Day Celebrations in Eldoret City

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said he may attend this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations as he continues expanding his political activities to different parts of the country ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a podcast interview on Friday, July 31, Gachagua revealed that he has received invitations to visit several counties, including Bomet, Kericho, Elgeyo Marakwet, Emurua Dikirr and Garissa.

He said he is considering attending the Mashujaa Day celebrations after receiving an invitation to the event.

“I have invitations to visit South Rift, including Bomet, Kericho and Elgeyo Marakwet. I also have an invitation to attend the Mashujaa Day celebrations, and I am still considering it,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua Alleges Political Intimidation

The former Deputy President claimed that some government officials have been trying to stop his political meetings in different parts of the country.

He also accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of frustrating his political activities, saying he has experienced challenges while touring the Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua added that he has also been invited to Garissa County despite previous remarks by Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale discouraging him from visiting the area.

Mashujaa Day Venue Changed

The remarks come after President William Ruto approved the relocation of this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations to Eldoret City.

The event had initially been planned for Kamariny Stadium in Elgeyo Marakwet before the government announced the change following consultations with leaders from the North Rift region.

The celebrations will now bring together Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Nandi counties.

Political Focus Ahead of 2027

Gachagua’s planned visits to Rift Valley and North Eastern Kenya are seen as part of his efforts to increase his political presence beyond his traditional support base before the 2027 General Election.

If he attends the national celebrations, it will be one of his biggest public appearances in a region that has largely supported President Ruto in recent elections.
