Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has announced that he has left the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro announced on Monday, August 17, 2026, during a media briefing in Nairobi.
The lawmaker said he had spent the past year consulting various opposition leaders before making his decision.
He revealed that he had held talks with several prominent opposition figures, including Peter Munya, Martha Karua, James Orengo, Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Nyoro said his decision was guided by what he believes is best for Kenyans.
“I have been carrying a heavy burden. I have been thinking and praying that in whatever direction I take, politically speaking, the people of Kenya must be the great consideration that I have,” he said.

Nyoro plans nationwide political tours
After joining PPK, Nyoro said he would begin touring different parts of the country to explain his political position to voters.
He said some of his first stops would be in areas that have traditionally supported President William Ruto, including Uasin Gishu, Kericho and Nandi.
The Kiharu MP said the tours would also allow him to explain what led to his fallout with the Kenya Kwanza administration, which he strongly supported during the 2022 General Election.
Nyoro also said he would support PPK candidates seeking MCA and parliamentary seats as the party works to establish a stronger grassroots presence.
He further welcomed members of other opposition parties to attend PPK rallies, saying the move was aimed at strengthening cooperation among opposition groups ahead of the 2027 elections.
