Kenya Met Lists Counties to Receive Rain in First Week of August 2026

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released its latest weather forecast, indicating that several counties will receive rainfall during the first week of August. The forecast also shows that some parts of the country will experience cold mornings and cloudy conditions, while others will continue to record high daytime temperatures.

According to Kenya Met, the forecast covers the period between August 2 and August 6, 2026.

Counties Expected to Receive Rain

Kenya Met says afternoon and evening showers are expected in several parts of the country, especially in western Kenya, the Rift Valley and the Central Highlands. The counties likely to receive rainfall include Nyandarua, Nyeri, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira. Some of these areas, particularly Nyandarua, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, West Pokot and Trans Nzoia, are expected to receive moderate afternoon showers on some days during the forecast period.

Nairobi and Other Areas to Experience Cool Weather

Residents of Nairobi and several other counties should also prepare for cool and cloudy conditions, especially during the mornings and evenings. Kenya Met says Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Kajiado, Machakos, Kitui, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Isiolo, Wajir, Kisii, Kericho, Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet will also experience similar weather conditions.

In Nairobi, daytime temperatures are expected to range between 22°C and 24°C, while night temperatures are likely to remain between 12°C and 13°C.

Coast Region to Receive Light Showers

The Coast region is expected to remain generally warm, although some areas may receive light morning showers. According to the forecast, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Lamu are likely to experience occasional showers in the mornings before sunny conditions return later in the day.

Northern Kenya to Remain Hot

Unlike other parts of the country, Northern Kenya is expected to remain hot and mostly dry throughout the forecast period. Mandera is likely to record the highest temperatures of up to 37°C, while Turkana could reach 36°C. Daytime temperatures in Garissa and Wajir are also expected to rise above 33°C.

Cold Nights Continue in Central Kenya

Kenya Met has also warned that residents in Central Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley should continue preparing for cold nights and chilly mornings. Nyandarua is expected to record some of the country’s lowest temperatures, dropping to around 7°C, while Laikipia, Nyeri, Kiambu, Kajiado and Nairobi are also expected to experience cool mornings.

The weather department has advised Kenyans to keep following its regular weather updates, especially those living in areas expected to receive rainfall, so they can plan their daily activities accordingly.
