Kenyan gospel musician Rachel Wandeto, also known by some as Rachel Muthoni, has reportedly died while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital after suffering severe burns during a shocking attack in Nairobi.
Rachel became widely known on social media after tattooing the face of William Ruto on her chest, together with political messages supporting his leadership. Her actions sparked mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans supporting her while others strongly criticized her.
According to reports, the tragic incident happened on Friday night in the Mwiki area of Kasarani. Police say Rachel was attacked shortly after midnight along Obama Road by three masked men.
Witnesses claimed the attackers accused her of receiving money because of her public support for President Ruto. However, Rachel reportedly denied receiving any financial help.
The situation later turned violent after the suspects allegedly poured petrol and another harmful substance on her before setting her on fire and escaping from the scene.
She was first rushed to Uzima Uhai Hospital before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized treatment due to the seriousness of her injuries.
Reports indicate that she suffered burns on nearly 70 percent of her body, including the face, legs, arms, and chest.
Family members and friends had earlier appealed to Kenyans to donate blood as doctors fought to save her life. Sadly, reports now indicate that she passed away while undergoing treatment.
Issa Mohamud confirmed that investigations into the attack are ongoing, although no arrests have been made so far.
