100-Year-Old Woman Builds Her Own Grave, Requests Burial Contributions Before Her Death

A 100-year-old woman from Uganda has surprised many people after she built her own grave inside her house and started planning her funeral while still alive.

The woman, identified as Dorothy Nantale from Bulasana Village in Lwengo, was seen in a video carefully supervising the construction of the grave while leaning on her walking stick.

According to reports, Dorothy said building her grave was one of her lifelong dreams, and she wanted to complete it while she is still alive, strong, and able to make decisions.

She explained that she has no close family members left, as her husband and children have already passed away. This made her feel the need to prepare for her final journey in advance.

Dorothy said she is not bothered by what people think about her unusual decision, insisting that she is simply preparing her “final home.”

“People may think I am strange, but this is something I have wanted for many years. I want to prepare my final home while I am still energetic enough to supervise everything,” she said.

She also said the project was delayed for many years because she was careful not to fall into the hands of dishonest builders who could overcharge her or use poor materials.

According to her, she only proceeded after finding trustworthy people to carry out the construction.

The grave is reported to be about 10 feet deep and includes a specially designed inner chamber. Although the design looks similar to some Muslim-style burial structures, Dorothy says she is a Christian.

The centenarian also revealed that she plans to celebrate once the grave is complete, similar to a housewarming party, and hopes it will happen during her birthday.

Some members of the community have criticized her for focusing on building a modern grave while living in a simple house. However, Dorothy dismissed the criticism, saying her grave is her permanent home and deserves proper attention.

“This is my permanent home. Others build houses where they stay temporarily, but this one will be my home forever,” she added.

She has also asked well-wishers to support her with contributions and gifts for the planned celebration, noting that she has already purchased her coffin.

In other related news, a man in Murang’a also attracted attention after building his own burial site and planning everything for his funeral before his death.
