Government Announces Salary Increase for All Public Workers from July

Civil servants in Kenya are set to receive a salary increase starting July 2026 after President William Ruto directed a full review of pay and allowances in the public service.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku announced the news on Tuesday during Public Service Week celebrations held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

He said the new salary changes will affect all government workers across ministries, state departments, agencies, and county governments.

According to the CS, the review will not only focus on basic salary but also include key allowances such as housing and commuter allowances.

“President William Ruto and the government are increasing salaries for all public servants in July. This will include gross pay, housing allowance, and commuter allowance,” Ruku said.

The move is expected to benefit thousands of workers across the public sector, improving their monthly earnings.

At the same event, the government also directed all public institutions to move their payroll systems to the Human Resource Information System (HRIS).

Ruku said the move is aimed at improving transparency and better management of public funds. He added that all ministries, counties, and government agencies must fully join the system within one month.

He warned that institutions that fail to comply may face consequences, including delays or suspension of salary payments.

“All government departments must be on one payroll platform. Those who fail to comply within one month will not process salaries,” he warned.

This latest pay review comes after the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) approved a phased salary adjustment plan for public servants under the 2025–2029 review cycle, which began in July 2025.

The SRC said the adjustments are meant to make public sector pay more competitive while matching current economic conditions.
