University Fund Lists Documents Needed for 2026 Government Scholarship Applications

Students who have been placed in public universities through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) can now apply for government scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The Universities Fund has announced that the scholarship application portal opened on July 8, 2026, and will remain open until September 6, 2026.

The scholarship is available to students who have been placed in public universities. Students joining private universities are advised to apply for financial support through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the government scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be Kenyan citizens.
  • Have been placed in a public university through KUCCPS.
  • Apply through the Higher Education Financing (HEF) Portal before the deadline.

Documents Required for the Scholarship Application

Students are advised to prepare the following before starting their application:

  • A valid email address.
  • A mobile phone number registered in the student’s name.
  • KCPE and KCSE index numbers and examination years.
  • A recent passport-size photograph.
  • University admission letter.
  • Birth certificate or National ID.
  • Parent’s or guardian’s National ID number.
  • Parent’s or guardian’s registered mobile phone number.
  • Death certificate of a parent, where applicable.

Having these documents ready will help make the application process faster and easier.

How to Apply

Students can apply by following these steps:

  1. Visit the Higher Education Financing (HEF) Portal.
  2. Create an account using your email address and registered mobile phone number.
  3. Log in and complete the scholarship application form.
  4. Enter your KCPE and KCSE examination details.
  5. Upload all the required documents.
  6. Confirm that all the information provided is correct.
  7. Submit your application before September 6, 2026.

Students Urged to Apply Early

The Universities Fund has encouraged students to submit their applications as early as possible to allow enough time for processing and release of financial support before the new academic year begins.

Eligible students are advised not to wait until the last minute to avoid delays or missing the application deadline.
