A newly graduated Administration Police officer, Cynthia Cherotich, has died in a road accident in Nairobi, just a day after completing her police training.
Cherotich graduated on September 4, 2026, at the National Police Service College, Embakasi ‘A’ Campus in Nairobi, after completing nine months of intensive training.
She was travelling home on September 5 to celebrate her graduation with her family when she was involved in the fatal accident.
Family devastated by her death
Cherotich’s family is mourning the loss of their firstborn daughter, who had just started her career in the police service.
A family member said Cherotich was crossing a road in Nairobi when the accident happened. She was reportedly with a colleague who survived but sustained injuries.
The family member also said relatives were initially forced to learn about the accident through social media as they waited for official communication from her seniors.
The news has left the family heartbroken, especially because Cherotich had planned to return home and celebrate her major achievement with her loved ones.
Promising career cut short
Cherotich had just been commissioned as an Administration Police officer after successfully completing the demanding training programme.
Her graduation marked the beginning of what was expected to be a long career in the National Police Service.
However, her life and promising career were cut short only a day after she completed her training.
News of her death has also sparked messages of condolence on social media, with Kenyans mourning the young officer and the tragic timing of her death.
